Youth Action Grants and Impact, IRL

The National Youth Council (NYC) has refreshed the Youth Action Challenge with a suite of Youth Action Grants for youth-led projects. The 2026 structure includes a Microgrant for first-time project starters, the Young ChangeMakers (YCM) Grant for seed funding, and the Youth Action Grant (YAG) for initiatives ready to scale and sustain their community impact. The grants are programme funding for youth-led projects; they are not automatic cash benefits for every young person and do not replace the broader SG Youth Plan (NYC, Youth Action Challenge, accessed 21 August 2026; sg youth plan).

Grant tiers and funding ceilings

The Microgrant offers up to S$1,000 and can cover up to 100% of supported costs through a simplified application process with no pitch required. NYC says applications for this tier will be made at the Impact, IRL marketplace, with more information to follow. The YCM Grant provides seed funding of up to 100% of supported costs, subject to a maximum of S$3,000 or S$5,000; it is described as a by-youth, for-youth grant-making programme. The YAG is for projects designed to increase their impact and continue serving the community over time, rather than one-off events (NYC, Youth Action Challenge, accessed 21 August 2026).

The first 2026 YAG cycle accepts applications from 25 July to 31 August 2026. Shortlisted applicants are to pitch to a judging panel at Impact, IRL on 31 October 2026, when the final grant award will be determined. Successful teams can receive up to S$70,000 to develop and scale their projects. The S$70,000 figure is the stated upper ceiling for successful YAG teams, not a guaranteed award or a minimum amount (NYC, Youth Action Challenge, accessed 21 August 2026).

Impact, IRL and participatory budgeting

Impact, IRL is a one-day youth-action marketplace co-organised by NYC and the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC). It brings together youths, community organisations, government agencies, and private and philanthropic partners. For the first YAG cycle, the event is both the venue for shortlisted pitches and a possible route for public participation: where available, the public may vote for favourite projects through a Participatory Budgeting exercise, giving teams a chance to receive additional funding. Public voting is therefore a programme feature, not evidence that every applicant will receive funding or that the public determines every grant award (NYC, Youth Action Challenge, accessed 21 August 2026).

NYC distinguishes this refreshed grant suite from the earlier Youth Action Challenge that ran from 2020 to 2025 across six seasons. The earlier programme used workshops, mentorship, and professional guidance to help youths develop ground-up initiatives; the 2026 page presents the grant suite as year-round funding support with different entry points for project maturity. The two should not be collapsed into a single unchanged grant or treated as the same application cycle (NYC, Youth Action Challenge, accessed 21 August 2026).
