Merger with Malaysia (1963–1965)

Singapore joined Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak to form Malaysia on 16 September 1963, seeking independence, security and a common market, but special federal terms, party rivalry, communal politics, economic disputes and Konfrontasi made the union unsustainable within 23 months.
