Singapore IP Week 2026
Singapore IP Week 2026, opened on 26 August 2026, convened policymakers, businesses and IP experts around AI and intangible assets and announced new valuation, enterprise-management and regional collaboration initiatives.
Singapore IP Week 2026
Singapore IP Week 2026 opened on 26 August 2026 under the theme “The Rise of AI: Is It IP as usual?”. The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) said the event brought together business leaders, policymakers and IP experts to examine how intellectual-property laws and frameworks should support innovation as artificial intelligence changes questions of authorship, inventorship, disclosure, protection and liability (IPOS, 26 August 2026).
Singapore IP Week is an ecosystem and discussion platform, not itself a statute, IP registration procedure or adjudicative body. The 2026 announcement is also separate from the MinLaw–IPOS public consultation on AI and Singapore's copyright and patent regimes, which ran from 26 August to 22 October 2026 (IPOS, 26 August 2026; MinLaw and IPOS, AI-IP consultation).
Initiatives announced in 2026
The 2026 event announced or highlighted several initiatives concerning intangible assets (IA) and intellectual property (IP). The Institute of Valuers and Appraisers Singapore developed IA Valuation Guidelines intended to support more robust, transparent and consistent valuation practices for businesses, investors, lenders and valuers. The guidelines complement international standards; they are guidance for valuation practice, not legislation or a guarantee of any particular valuation outcome. IPOS also launched a Technical Reference for Enterprise IA/IP Management, with practical guidance, templates and standardised practices for enterprises seeking to manage IA and IP systematically (IPOS, 26 August 2026).
Building on that Technical Reference, a new certificate programme in Enterprise IA/IP Management was announced for launch with a local institute of higher learning. The announcement describes the programme as intended to equip business professionals with skills for enterprise IA/IP management and encourage wider adoption across the region. It records a planned launch, not an already-completed qualification rollout or a mandatory credential for directors, inventors or businesses (IPOS, 26 August 2026).
Regional cooperation and recognition
Singapore also hosted the 79th ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation, bringing senior IP policymakers from all 11 ASEAN countries together alongside IP Week. The event announcement records the establishment of the Global IA Valuation Network by six organisations: IPOS, the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers Singapore, the International Trademark Association, the International Valuation Standards Council, the Licensing Executives Society International and the World Intellectual Property Organization. The network is intended to share expertise and perspectives on intangible-asset valuation; it is not described as a new regulator or common valuation law (IPOS, 26 August 2026).
The inaugural regional IP for Growth Awards (IPGA) ceremony took place on 25 August 2026, before IP Week, and recognised 11 winners from across Asia for using IA and IP to strengthen competitiveness, enter markets and support business growth. IPOS identified examples involving renewable methanol, an agentic-AI supply-chain platform and automated Nanyang-kopi machines. The awards recognise enterprise stories; they do not grant IP rights, constitute government funding, or prove that every recipient has succeeded under the same commercial model (IPOS, 26 August 2026).
Status and interpretation
As of 28 August 2026, Singapore IP Week 2026 is a dated event and the listed initiatives have different statuses: some guidelines and the Technical Reference were published, while the certificate programme was announced for a future launch. IPOS remains Singapore's statutory board responsible for administering IP rights, but IP Week does not itself change copyright or patent law. Any legal effect must be checked against legislation, enacted rules or subsequent official decisions (IPOS, 26 August 2026; ai intellectual property consultation 2026).
