Singapore Convention Week 2026
Singapore Convention Week (SC Week) 2026 is Singapore's flagship international dispute-resolution event, held from 24 to 28 August 2026. The Ministry of Law (MinLaw) organised it in collaboration with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and other partner organisations. The 2026 theme was “Timeless Principles, Timely Solutions: Nurturing Trust in a Changing World”, linking fairness and the rule of law with geopolitical shifts, technological disruption and changing cross-border relationships (MinLaw, 23 August 2026).
SC Week is a convening and learning programme, not a court, arbitral tribunal, statute or automatic mechanism for resolving a participant's dispute. Its name reflects Singapore's role in international mediation and dispute resolution, but attendance at an event does not itself make the Singapore Convention on Mediation applicable to a dispute (MinLaw, 23 August 2026; singapore convention on mediation).
Programme focus and participation
MinLaw said SC Week 2026 aimed to bring arbitrators, mediators, policymakers and senior practitioners together to discuss emerging trends, shared challenges and new innovations in dispute resolution. The official pre-event release records that the 2025 edition had more than 5,600 attendances from more than 100 countries. That is a prior-edition attendance figure, not a confirmed attendance count for the 2026 programme (MinLaw, 23 August 2026).
The event's subject matter includes cross-border commercial disputes, mediation, arbitration, legal technology and the conditions that support trust in international commerce. It brings together professional and policy audiences; it should not be confused with public legal advice, a licensing course for every mediator, or a government guarantee of a particular dispute outcome (MinLaw, 23 August 2026).
UNCITRAL Academy Conference and workshops
The UNCITRAL Academy Conference on 25 August examined trust and technology. MinLaw's release says the programme considered the continuing importance of human judgement as commerce and dispute resolution become more digital, including how artificial intelligence may affect legal practice. Topics included AI in mediation and cross-border disputes, emerging government frameworks, and implications for businesses, institutions and the legal profession (MinLaw, 23 August 2026).
Capacity-building workshops on 25 and 27 August 2026 offered practical and interactive learning for the future legal landscape. The release also identifies partner events such as the Singapore International Arbitration Centre Symposium, which addressed cross-border business risks, energy-transition and infrastructure disputes, supply-chain disruption, Middle East transactions and legal technology. These are programme components and discussion areas, not binding legal rules or official interpretations of every dispute (MinLaw, 23 August 2026).
Relationship to Singapore's dispute-resolution ecosystem
SC Week supports Singapore's wider dispute-resolution ecosystem, which includes the Singapore Convention on Mediation, Singapore-based arbitration and mediation institutions, courts, legal education and international policy forums. It is distinct from the Centre for Arbitration and International Dispute Resolution, which is an institution with its own research and professional role, and from the Singapore IP Week, which focuses on intellectual property and intangible-asset issues (MinLaw, 23 August 2026; centre arbitration international dispute resolution; singapore ip week 2026).
As of 28 August 2026, the MinLaw release describes the 2026 event and its programme aims; it does not establish that SC Week enacted a law, created a new tribunal, changed court jurisdiction or settled a participant's dispute. Questions about a mediation agreement, arbitration clause or enforcement route require the applicable instrument and official legal rules, not the event description alone (MinLaw, 23 August 2026).
