Tech Kaki
Singapore's GovTech Tech Kaki community brings citizens from diverse backgrounds into focus groups, user testing, surveys and other research to co-create and improve government digital products and services.
Tech Kaki
Singapore's Tech Kaki is a Government Technology Agency (GovTech) citizen community for co-creating government digital products and services. It brings together everyday citizens from different backgrounds to take part in focus-group discussions, user testing, surveys and other research activities so that digital services better meet the needs of citizens and businesses (GovTech Singapore, accessed 30 August 2026). Tech Kaki is a user-research and feedback community, not a government technology qualification, employment route, grant scheme or public-service complaint channel.
How citizens contribute
Tech Kaki members may be invited to give feedback during product research and development, including through discussions, surveys and tests of services or features before launch. GovTech says members can receive early access to various government digital products and services, allowing product teams to learn from real users and iterate on designs (GovTech Singapore, accessed 30 August 2026). The precise activity, participant selection, time commitment and incentive, if any, depend on the research exercise; the community page does not promise that every member will be invited to every study or receive payment.
Tech Kaki sits within Singapore's wider Smart Nation citizen-engagement approach. Smart Nation materials describe Tech Kaki as a GovTech programme that engages citizens in shaping digital products and services, while related channels such as Open Government Products' Build for Good hackathon have different purposes (Smart Nation Singapore, accessed 30 August 2026). Tech Kaki therefore concerns continuing user feedback on government digital services rather than a single time-limited innovation competition.
Reported community and examples of impact
GovTech's Tech Kaki page describes a 6,000-strong community as at its 24 July 2025 update. The figure is a reported community size at that publication point, not a current census of Singapore residents, a participation rate, or a claim that all members are active in every study (GovTech Singapore, accessed 30 August 2026). Smart Nation's 2.0 report similarly describes almost 6,000 citizens participating in focus groups, user testing and surveys, including user-research insights that informed the redesign of the Singpass app consent screen (Smart Nation 2.0 report, accessed 30 August 2026).
GovTech also gives examples involving Singpass and LifeSG. A user-research study contributed to a redesigned Singpass login page intended to help citizens spot fraudulent activity more easily, while feedback from more than 100 Tech Kaki members informed improvements to the LifeSG inbox design (GovTech Singapore, accessed 30 August 2026). These examples demonstrate how feedback can influence product design; they do not mean Tech Kaki independently operates Singpass or LifeSG, or that every member's suggestion is adopted.
Boundaries with other engagement channels
Tech Kaki should be distinguished from Sparks, which uses selected Community Clubs and taskforces to develop resident-led local solutions, and from Build for Good, which uses hackathons and an accelerator to support citizen teams building technology for public-good problems. Tech Kaki's core contribution is structured citizen feedback and user research for GovTech and whole-of-government digital products, rather than local physical-space activation, a hackathon prize or a funding commitment (GovTech Singapore, accessed 30 August 2026; Smart Nation Singapore, accessed 30 August 2026). Residents interested in joining should use GovTech's current Tech Kaki sign-up route; membership does not grant access to confidential government data or guarantee influence over a product decision.
