National Youth Tech Championship

Singapore's National Youth Tech Championship (NYTC) is an annual national technology competition organised by IMDA for students from Infocomm Media Clubs (IMCs). It gives club members a platform to learn, excel and be recognised through guided training and hands-on technology challenges (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). NYTC is a competition opportunity within the IMC ecosystem, not a compulsory school examination or an automatic outcome of joining an IMC.

2025 edition and participation denominator

The 2025 third edition was jointly organised by IMDA and Google Cloud in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Technology. IMDA reported more than 320 student participants from 67 secondary schools for that edition (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). The denominator is the 2025 championship participants and participating secondary schools; it is not the number of all IMC members, all secondary students or all schools in Singapore.

Training and competition format

The 2025 NYTC used a land-based robotics and artificial-intelligence focus. Participants learned programming and AI skills such as machine learning and computer vision before applying them in a head-to-head autonomous-robot competition (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). IMDA said the programme was designed to be accessible even to students who began without prior AI skills because training and partner support were provided; that statement does not guarantee that every future season uses the same technology, format or training duration.

Place in the IMC programme

NYTC is the EXCEL pillar of the Infocomm Media Clubs programme, which also provides LEARN training, DISCOVER industry learning journeys and LEAD activities for student leaders (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). Students who want to participate must follow the current IMDA and school arrangements for the relevant season. The 2025 participant figure should not be used to infer a standing annual quota or universal access route.

Distinction from other digital-learning programmes

NYTC is a competition with a particular season, challenge and participant pool. Code@SG is the wider student coding and computational-thinking movement, while Digital Skills for Life defines everyday competencies for the broader population. NYTC does not award a general academic qualification, guarantee employment or scholarship, or replace the school's CCA and curriculum. Future dates, challenge themes, partners and application arrangements should be checked against the latest IMDA announcement.
