Code@SG

Singapore's Code@SG is an IMDA-led movement that introduces students to computational thinking, coding and emerging technologies so they can become curious, confident and creative with technology (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). It is a collection of school and youth-development programmes rather than one course, examination or coding credential.

Code for Fun

Code for Fun is jointly offered by IMDA and the Ministry of Education. The enrichment programme exposes primary and secondary school students to computational thinking, coding, digital making and emerging technologies through hands-on use of robotic kits and microcontrollers (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). The current Code for Fun page says MOE government and government-aided primary and secondary schools are eligible to apply, with application instructions sent annually to schools during the stated application window (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026).

Infocomm Media Clubs

Code@SG also includes support for infocomm and media-related clubs across MOE primary and secondary schools and junior colleges or Millennia Institute (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). Club members can pursue technology interests, deepen learning in emerging technologies and gain industry exposure through curated activities. These clubs are a school-based enrichment and co-curricular route; joining one does not mean that a student is enrolled in Code for Fun or guaranteed a particular industry placement.

Computational-thinking scope

Computational thinking refers to processes and approaches for using computer-based reasoning to solve complex problems and create systems (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). Code@SG applies that idea through coding, digital making and emerging-technology experiences. The movement's published purpose is capability-building and interest development among students, not the regulation of school examinations or the assignment of a universal curriculum requirement.

Dated cumulative reach

An IMDA article dated 14 March 2024 reported that Code@SG had benefited more than 345,000 students since the movement launched in 2014 (IMDA, 14 March 2024). This is a cumulative student reach for the movement over the stated period, not a 2024 enrolment figure, a count of schools or a forecast of future participation.

Relationship to other digital-learning topics

Code@SG is oriented toward student coding, computational thinking and technology exploration. Digital Skills for Life is a five-competency framework for everyday digital tasks across the population, while Digital for Life is a broader national digital-inclusion movement. Those topics can overlap in digital readiness, but Code@SG should not be treated as a digital-literacy subsidy, a seniors' programme or a government-product user-research panel. The exact school programme, module and application conditions depend on the named Code@SG component and current IMDA/MOE instructions.
