SME AI Impact Awards 2026

The SME AI Impact Awards 2026 are the inaugural awards programme jointly launched by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Singapore Business Federation (SBF). They recognise Singapore small and medium-sized enterprises that have achieved measurable business outcomes through developing or adopting artificial intelligence. IMDA announced the programme on 21 May 2026 as part of the National AI Impact Programme (NAIIP) and in support of Singapore’s National AI Strategy (IMDA, 21 May 2026).

Award categories and recognition

The awards have two categories. The SME Innovation Excellence Award is for enterprises developing their own proprietary AI tools. The SME Adoption Excellence Award is for enterprises that have successfully implemented ready-to-use or off-the-shelf AI solutions. IMDA’s announcement says the programme will recognise up to 30 winners across the two categories, rather than promising a fixed number of winners in each category (IMDA, 21 May 2026).

Winners receive the SME AI Impact Award Trustmark, described by IMDA as a verified mark of excellence intended to strengthen credibility and market reputation. The announcement does not establish that the trustmark is a regulatory licence, funding approval, procurement qualification or general certification for all AI systems. Its documented role is recognition of the winning SMEs and their demonstrated AI outcomes (IMDA, 21 May 2026).

2026 timing and scope

The published nomination window was 1 June to 14 August 2026. The winners were scheduled to be celebrated at SMEs Go Digital Day on 13 October 2026 at Suntec Convention Centre. These are the dates and arrangements in IMDA’s 21 May 2026 announcement; later official updates would be needed to confirm any changes, actual winners or post-award outcomes (IMDA, 21 May 2026).

The awards are therefore a recognition route, not a substitute for enterprise-support schemes. Being nominated or winning does not, on the cited announcement alone, create a grant entitlement, make an SME eligible for every NAIIP or Digital Enterprise Blueprint support measure, or imply that the enterprise has adopted AI safely in every business function. Those questions require the relevant programme’s own eligibility rules and evidence (IMDA, 21 May 2026; National AI Impact Programme; AI for Enterprise Impact Playbook).

Place in Singapore’s enterprise-AI system

The awards sit within Singapore’s broader effort to move enterprise AI adoption from experimentation to measurable implementation. The same IMDA announcement reported that AI adoption among SMEs rose from 4.2% to 14.5% in 2024, while non-SME adoption rose from 44% to 62.5%; those figures describe adoption rates in the cited SGDE Report 2025 context, not the number of award applicants or winners (IMDA, 21 May 2026).
