Hotel Check-In Identity Documentation and Planned Digital NRIC Acceptance (5 August 2026)
MHA clarified that every hotel guest must present valid identity documentation at check-in, while the Government plans legislative amendments to enable Singaporeans and permanent residents to use digital NRICs for hotel check-ins.
Hotel Check-In Identity Documentation and Planned Digital NRIC Acceptance (5 August 2026)
MHA stated on 5 August 2026 that all hotel guests, regardless of nationality, must present a valid identity document when checking in to a Singapore hotel. The stated purpose is to ensure that each guest is properly identified and registered for the stay (MHA, 5 August 2026).
For Singapore citizens and permanent residents, MHA said the Government is moving towards full acceptance of digital NRICs for everyday transactions, including hotel check-ins, and plans to make legislative amendments to enable this. That statement describes a planned legal change, not evidence that every hotel must already accept a digital NRIC; guests should follow the hotel’s current check-in instructions and carry the valid identity document required under the law and the hotel’s process (MHA, 5 August 2026).
