ComfortDelGro Corporation
ComfortDelGro Corporation is a Singapore-headquartered multimodal transport group spanning bus, rail, taxi, private-hire and business mobility services; its group role is distinct from the licensed operators, LTA and PTC.
ComfortDelGro Corporation
ComfortDelGro Corporation Limited is a Singapore-headquartered transport group with operations across public buses and rail, taxis and private-hire cars, and business-to-business mobility services. The company describes itself as a multimodal transport operator; its corporate group includes operating companies and partnerships rather than one single licence covering all modes or countries (ComfortDelGro, Purpose and Values, accessed 3 October 2026). In a group profile published on 24 March 2025, the company reported operations in 13 countries; that is the group’s reported footprint at that release date, not a permanent country count (ComfortDelGro, 24 March 2025).
Singapore operating companies and services
In Singapore, SBS Transit is the group’s public bus and rail operator. ComfortDelGro’s corporate site identifies SBS Transit as a group company and describes its Singapore bus, North East Line, Downtown Line and Sengkang–Punggol LRT operations (ComfortDelGro, Bus, accessed 3 October 2026). Separately, the group has point-to-point transport activities through taxi and private-hire services, including the Comfort and CityCab brands described in taxis and ride hailing. The corporate parent, operating company and customer-facing brand therefore answer different identity questions: SBS Transit is the named public-transport operator, while ComfortDelGro is the wider corporate group (ComfortDelGro, Purpose and Values, accessed 3 October 2026; ComfortDelGro, Rail, accessed 3 October 2026).
The ownership link is material but dated. SBS Transit’s shareholder statistics record ComfortDelGro Corporation Limited as holding 74.26% of SBS Transit’s issued ordinary shares as at 2 March 2026, based on 312,583,391 issued shares. This supports describing SBS Transit as a listed subsidiary and ComfortDelGro as its parent; the percentage is a dated shareholding snapshot and should not be carried forward without checking a newer disclosure (SBS Transit, Shareholding Statistics, 2 March 2026; see sbs transit for the subsidiary’s operator role and routes).
Contracted public transport is not asset ownership
Corporate ownership of an operator does not mean that ComfortDelGro owns Singapore’s public buses, depots, rail tracks or stations. Under the Bus Contracting Model, the Government owns the bus assets, infrastructure and systems, while LTA plans services and competitively contracts operators to run packages to LTA’s service standards. SBS Transit is one of four public bus operators under this arrangement (LTA, Bus Contracting Model, accessed 3 October 2026).
For rail, LTA states that all existing lines have moved to the New Rail Financing Framework and that LTA owns the rail operating assets; licensed rail operators focus on operating and maintaining services (LTA, Rail, accessed 3 October 2026). Thus, SBS Transit operates its assigned lines and services, but neither SBS Transit nor its parent should be described as the owner of the national network or its rail operating assets. Contracting and asset ownership are separate from the corporate shareholder relationship (LTA, Rail, accessed 3 October 2026; SBS Transit, Shareholding Statistics, 2 March 2026).
Distinguishing ComfortDelGro, SBS Transit, LTA and PTC
Use ComfortDelGro for questions about the parent group, its portfolio and corporate ownership; use SBS Transit for its Singapore bus and rail operations; use LTA for network planning, licensing, contracting and public transport assets; and use the Public Transport Council (PTC) for regulated bus and train fares and ticket-payment services (ComfortDelGro, Rail, accessed 3 October 2026; LTA, Bus Contracting Model, accessed 3 October 2026; LTA, Rail, accessed 3 October 2026; PTC, About PTC).
This distinction prevents two common errors. ComfortDelGro’s majority ownership of SBS Transit does not make the parent company the direct operator of every line assigned to SBS Transit, SMRT, Tower Transit or Go-Ahead; and operating a contracted service does not transfer public asset ownership or national fare-setting authority to the operator. Questions about current routes, contracts, asset ownership or fares should therefore be answered from the relevant operator, LTA or PTC record rather than inferred from the group’s corporate name (LTA, Bus Contracting Model, accessed 3 October 2026; LTA, Rail, accessed 3 October 2026; PTC, About PTC).
