NUS Hydrogen and Low-Carbon Consortium 2026

Consortium purpose and members

The National University of Singapore's Centre for Hydrogen and Carbon Innovations (CHCI) established the Hydrogen and Low-Carbon Consortium (HyLoCC) to connect academic research with commercial applications in decarbonisation. NUS said the consortium was launched on 14 July 2026 and began with four founding members: DBS Bank, Keppel's Infrastructure Division, Surbana Jurong and YTL PowerSeraya. (NUS, 15 July 2026, accessed 5 September 2026.)

Technology and application scope

HyLoCC is intended to support research and translation across hydrogen and other low-carbon technologies, including work connected to energy systems, industry and maritime applications. NUS highlighted a CHCI demonstration of in-cylinder reforming gas-recirculation technology for near-zero-greenhouse-gas-emission ammonia-fuelled marine engines. The demonstration and consortium do not establish that a commercial maritime system is ready for general deployment. (NUS, 15 July 2026, accessed 5 September 2026.)

Singapore decarbonisation context

The consortium provides an industry-engagement structure within NUS's hydrogen and carbon research ecosystem. Its purpose is to bridge research and commercial application; the announcement does not specify a fixed funding total, binding emissions target, regulatory status or guaranteed commercial outcome for the founding members. (NUS, 15 July 2026, accessed 5 September 2026.)
