Tech Connect
Singapore's Tech Connect initiative, supported by MDDI, IMDA and PA, gives seniors one-to-one help from Tech Connect Kakis at selected Community Centres with digital devices, apps and online services.
Tech Connect
Singapore's Tech Connect is an initiative supported by the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), IMDA and the People's Association (PA) to help seniors become more confident using digital devices and services (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). Its distinctive delivery model is one-to-one assistance from Tech Connect Kakis at selected Community Centres. Tech Connect is practical device and service assistance; it is not a nationwide guarantee that every Community Centre provides the same help.
What Tech Connect Kakis do
Tech Connect Kakis provide seniors with individual help using mobile devices, apps and websites that can make daily life easier (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). Seniors may walk in to a selected Community Centre and look for the Tech Connect Kakis there. The official page does not establish that every centre has a Tech Connect Kaki, that every volunteer can troubleshoot every device or app, or that the initiative replaces a product provider's technical-support channel.
The practical model is therefore a guided troubleshooting or confidence-building conversation: a senior brings a question about a device or a digital service, and a Tech Connect Kaki helps work through that question where the local service is available. The initiative is not described as a central hotline, a remote-access service or a promise that a volunteer will handle a resident's passwords, account recovery or personal decisions. Seniors remain responsible for protecting credentials and deciding whether to follow advice, while the selected centre and current IMDA information are the appropriate starting points for access (IMDA, accessed 10 September 2026).
How it relates to Seniors Go Digital
Tech Connect and Seniors Go Digital both support older Singaporeans' digital participation, but they solve different problems. Seniors Go Digital is a structured learning and digital-literacy programme using Digital Ambassadors, community hubs and online resources to teach foundational skills. Tech Connect is a local, walk-in assistance route for questions about a person's device, app or online service (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026; IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). A Tech Connect visit is therefore not automatically a Seniors Go Digital course or a subsidy application.
This distinction helps answer common route-selection questions. Someone seeking a class or a repeatable lesson on basic digital tasks should first look at Seniors Go Digital resources; someone with a concrete question about using a device, app or online service may look for a Tech Connect Kaki at a participating centre. The two initiatives can complement each other, but the existence of one does not prove that a particular centre offers the other, that a walk-in visit has a fixed duration, or that either route provides equipment or financial assistance (IMDA, accessed 10 September 2026; IMDA, accessed 10 September 2026).
Relationship to digital-inclusion support
Tech Connect sits within IMDA's wider digital-inclusion system. The Digital Skills for Life framework defines five baseline competencies for everyday online tasks, while Digital for Life is the broader national movement that mobilises public, private and community partners (IMDA, accessed 30 August 2026). Tech Connect Kakis may help a senior with a practical task that relates to those skills, but Tech Connect does not itself confer a formal qualification, a Singpass entitlement, a smartphone, a mobile plan or a cash grant. Separate access schemes have their own eligibility and availability conditions.
The relationship is best understood as layered support. Digital Skills for Life describes capabilities a person may want to develop, Digital for Life connects a wider ecosystem of partners and activities, and Tech Connect supplies local person-to-person help for a specific device or service question. A senior may use all three routes over time, but the names should not be treated as interchangeable programme labels. In particular, a framework or movement page does not establish that Tech Connect Kakis can approve access to government services, issue credentials or determine eligibility for another IMDA scheme (IMDA, accessed 10 September 2026).
Access and scope boundary
The current IMDA page directs seniors to selected Community Centres and to Tech4Community for more details; the list of participating locations and operating arrangements can change (IMDA, last updated 13 April 2026, accessed 30 August 2026). People should check the current official listing before visiting. The initiative's published scope is assistance with digital devices and services, not general social-service casework, formal cybersecurity incident response or a promise that a volunteer will make decisions on a senior's behalf.
That access boundary is important when a question is urgent or sensitive. A resident who needs help with a specific digital task should confirm the participating location and current arrangement through IMDA's page or Tech4Community. A suspected scam, compromised account, medical issue, financial dispute or legal problem may require the relevant bank, service provider, public agency or emergency channel instead. Tech Connect can be a practical first step for digital confidence, but its public description does not make it a universal appointment system or a substitute for specialist support (IMDA, last updated 13 April 2026, accessed 10 September 2026).
