Robot Leasing Support Scheme 2026

The Robot Leasing Support Scheme (RLSS) is a Building and Construction Authority (BCA) initiative to lower adoption barriers for proven built-environment robotics and automation (R&A) solutions. BCA announced the scheme on 2 September 2026 as part of measures to improve construction productivity; it is support for solution providers that lease R&A equipment to built-environment firms, not a direct cash payment to every contractor (BCA, accessed 11 September 2026).

What the scheme supports

BCA says RLSS will co-fund solution providers to lease proven R&A solutions to built-environment firms. Examples named in the announcement include concrete-levelling and tile-grouting robots. The scheme is funded through BCA’s Built Environment Technology and Capability (BETC) grant, which BCA also identifies as an existing adoption-support measure alongside the Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) (BCA, accessed 11 September 2026). The published announcement describes provider-led leasing support; it does not establish that every robot, supplier or construction project qualifies.

The provider-led design affects how the scheme should be interpreted. The public announcement says BCA will co-fund solution providers so that they can offer leasing arrangements to built-environment firms. It does not describe RLSS as a contractor's unrestricted cash benefit or as a reimbursement that a firm can claim for any equipment it buys. “Proven” is also a programme boundary: the examples show the kinds of established R&A solutions being targeted, but the announcement does not publish a complete list of eligible robots, suppliers, lease terms or assessment criteria (BCA, accessed 11 September 2026).

Published funding boundary

The announcement states that RLSS will provide up to 50% co-funding for each robot, helping defray the cost of scaling leasing solutions so more built-environment firms can access R&A tools and potentially obtain time, cost and manpower savings (BCA, accessed 11 September 2026). “Up to 50%” is a published ceiling, not a guaranteed reimbursement for every applicant or robot; the applicable factsheet and live BCA terms govern detailed eligibility, assessment and claims. The ceiling should not be converted into a promise that every approved arrangement receives the maximum rate.

Relationship to other built-environment initiatives

RLSS addresses the leasing and adoption barrier for proven robotics. It is distinct from the Built Environment Accelerate to Market Programme (BEAMP), which supports innovators through co-creation, pilot testing, market trials and commercialisation, and from BCA’s Whole-of-Government virtual-inspection process for TOP/CSC compliance checks (BCA, accessed 11 September 2026). The announcement does not say RLSS itself creates a new regulation, procurement award or mandatory robotics-adoption requirement. The same BCA release says WOG virtual inspection is available for TOP/CSC compliance checks, while RLSS concerns provider-led leasing of R&A equipment; a firm should not treat a technology-adoption support scheme as a shortcut through statutory building approvals (BCA, accessed 11 September 2026).
