# NHG Health

NHG Health, formerly the National Healthcare Group, is Singapore's public healthcare cluster and Regional Health Manager for Central and North Singapore, connecting hospitals, NHG Polyclinics, national centres and community partners.

# NHG Health

NHG Health is Singapore's public healthcare cluster serving Central and North Singapore. Formerly known as the National Healthcare Group, it brings together hospitals, primary care, national centres and community partners as an integrated health system; the registered name remains National Healthcare Group while NHG Health is the public-facing identity ([NHG Health, Our Identity, accessed 20 October 2026](https://www.nhghealth.com.sg/about-us/our-identity)).

## NHG Health's role as a regional health manager

NHG Health is one of Singapore's three public healthcare clusters, alongside SingHealth in the east and the National University Health System (NUHS) in the west. The Ministry of Health describes all three as delivering primary, acute, specialist and intermediate care, while also serving as Regional Health Managers that coordinate healthcare, social-service and community partners for their regions ([MOH, accessed 20 October 2026](https://www.moh.gov.sg/about-us/our-partners/)). NHG Health's own institutional description identifies its catchment as Central and North Singapore and describes its work as supporting prevention, treatment, recovery and ageing in the community ([NHG Health, About Us, accessed 20 October 2026](https://www.nhghealth.com.sg/about-us)).

The regional designation is an organising and population-health responsibility, not an exclusive patient-assignment rule. It should not be interpreted to mean that a resident is legally required to attend only NHG facilities or that the cluster is an insurer. MOH's broader account of Singapore's clusters describes cross-cluster information flow and coordinated services across one public system ([MOH, cluster reorganisation](https://www.moh.gov.sg/newsroom/reorganisation-of-healthcare-system-into-three-integrated-clusters-to-better-meet-future-healthcare-needs/)). For the system-wide structure and patient-choice boundary, see [healthcare system overview](/en/knowledge/article/sgkb.healthcare.healthcare-system-overview).

## Institutions and services within the NHG Health network

NHG Health lists NHG Polyclinics as its primary-care group and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Woodlands Hospital and Yishun Community Hospital among its hospitals. Its institutional network also includes national centres such as the Institute of Mental Health, National Skin Centre and National Centre for Infectious Diseases, as well as specialist networks and community-health partners ([NHG Health, About Us, accessed 20 October 2026](https://www.nhghealth.com.sg/about-us)). These organisations have distinct clinical functions: the cluster-wide label does not make every facility an acute general hospital, nor does it mean a national centre serves only residents of the cluster.

NHG Health and NHG Polyclinics are therefore related but not interchangeable names. NHG Health is the wider integrated cluster; NHG Polyclinics is its primary-care group, with its own clinics and services. Likewise, Tan Tock Seng Hospital is an institution in the cluster, not another name for NHG Health. For a comparison of acute hospitals, community hospitals, specialty centres and public/private care settings, see [hospitals](/en/knowledge/article/sgkb.healthcare.hospitals); for polyclinic and GP roles, see [polyclinics and primary care](/en/knowledge/article/sgkb.healthcare.polyclinics-and-primary-care).

## Population health, prevention and community partnerships

As Regional Health Manager, NHG Health says it works with healthcare, social-service and community partners to improve health and wellbeing closer to home, including support for people to stay healthy, manage conditions and age in their communities ([NHG Health, About Us, accessed 20 October 2026](https://www.nhghealth.com.sg/about-us)). This reflects the national policy direction for clusters to coordinate care beyond hospital walls, but it should not be confused with a claim that NHG itself directly operates every GP clinic, social service or community facility in Central and North Singapore. Coordination and partnership are part of the model.

NHG Health's stated purpose is “Adding Years of Healthy Life”. Its identity page frames an ambition to add 15 million healthy years by helping each of the 1.5 million residents it serves gain ten additional healthy years over their lifetimes ([NHG Health, Our Identity, accessed 20 October 2026](https://www.nhghealth.com.sg/about-us/our-identity)). The 15-million figure is a long-term organisational ambition derived from the stated catchment and target, not an observed outcome, a guaranteed individual lifespan increase, or a current population-health statistic. Readers should distinguish this aspiration from measured results and from eligibility rules for any specific programme.

## Academic health system and institutional boundaries

NHG Health also describes itself as an Academic Health System, combining care delivery with research, education and innovation. It identifies NHG College, the Centre for Healthcare Innovation and Health Services and Outcomes Research as parts of this work, including professional development, leadership capability and health-system transformation ([NHG Health, About Us, accessed 20 October 2026](https://www.nhghealth.com.sg/about-us)). These functions complement the clinical network but do not make NHG Health a university, professional licensing regulator or national health ministry.

MOH remains the ministry responsible for national healthcare policy and oversight; professional councils and boards regulate practitioners within their statutory remits, and MOH separately licenses regulated healthcare services. NHG Health is best understood as a public healthcare delivery and regional coordination cluster. A patient seeking treatment should use the relevant facility's own service, referral and appointment information rather than treating the cluster's regional role as a substitute for clinical triage or an automatic referral entitlement ([MOH, public healthcare clusters](https://www.moh.gov.sg/about-us/our-partners/); [healthcare services regulation and licensing](/en/knowledge/article/sgkb.healthcare.healthcare-services-regulation-and-licensing)).
