Top-ups go to the Special Account (SA) for members below 55 or the Retirement Account (RA) for members 55 and above, where they earn the higher long-term interest rate and raise monthly [CPF LIFE](/en/knowledge/article/sgkb.cpf-social-security.cpf-life) payouts. The government encourages top-ups through income-tax relief for the giver and, for lower-income seniors and persons with disabilities, a dollar-for-dollar matching grant under the Matched Retirement Savings Scheme (MRSS).

## Who can top up and how much

A CPF member can top up the member's own SA or RA, or the SA or RA of a loved one, defined by CPF Board as parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, spouse and siblings. Members can also top up the accounts of employees, platform workers or any other member such as a friend, although such top-ups do not attract tax relief ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/saving-more-with-cpf/top-up-to-enjoy-higher-retirement-payouts)).

From age 55, the Retirement Account can be topped up to the current year's Enhanced Retirement Sum (ERS), which CPF Board gives as S$440,800 for 2026. The ERS rises every January, so further top-ups become possible each year. The actual limit for an individual depends on age and balances and is shown on the member's Retirement Dashboard ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/saving-more-with-cpf/top-up-to-enjoy-higher-retirement-payouts)). The ERS was raised from three to four times the Basic Retirement Sum on 1 January 2025 ([CPF Board, 19 Jan 2025](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/infohub/news/news-releases/closure-of-special-account-for-cpf-members-aged-55-and-above-and-other-cpf-enhancements)).

Top-ups are irreversible: once made, the money is reserved for monthly retirement payouts and cannot be withdrawn for other purposes. CPF Board notes that SA and RA monies currently earn up to 6% a year including extra interest, based on the 4% floor rate, and that topping up in January rather than December can earn up to 20% more interest on those monies over ten years ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/saving-more-with-cpf/top-up-to-enjoy-higher-retirement-payouts)).

## Cash top-ups versus CPF transfers

A CPF top-up can be made in cash or by transferring CPF savings. A cash top-up comes from the giver's own money. A CPF transfer moves the giver's Ordinary Account (OA) savings: a member below 55 may transfer OA savings to the member's own SA, and a member 55 or older to the member's own RA ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/saving-more-with-cpf/top-up-to-enjoy-higher-retirement-payouts)).

A member who wants to transfer CPF savings to a loved one must first have set aside enough for the member's own retirement. CPF transfers do not qualify for tax relief and do not attract the MRSS matching grant; only cash top-ups do ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/saving-more-with-cpf/top-up-to-enjoy-higher-retirement-payouts)). The distinction matters in practice: moving OA money into the RA raises retirement payouts and interest but gives up housing and other OA uses, while a cash top-up adds new money and may reduce the giver's income tax.

## Tax relief on cash top-ups

Cash top-ups to CPF qualify for personal income-tax relief for the giver, not the recipient. A giver can claim up to S$8,000 a calendar year for top-ups to the giver's own account and up to S$8,000 for top-ups to loved ones, a combined maximum of S$16,000 ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/saving-more-with-cpf/top-up-to-enjoy-higher-retirement-payouts)).

Top-ups to friends or relatives outside the loved-ones list do not qualify. An employer's cash top-up for employees can instead be claimed as a tax-deductible business expense, and employees or platform workers may claim up to S$8,000 on their own top-ups. Top-up amounts that attract the MRSS matching grant are not eligible for tax relief, so the same dollar cannot earn both incentives ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/saving-more-with-cpf/top-up-to-enjoy-higher-retirement-payouts)).

## Matched Retirement Savings Scheme

The Matched Retirement Savings Scheme (MRSS) is a government grant that matches cash top-ups to the retirement savings of eligible lower-income members, up to S$2,000 a year and S$20,000 over a lifetime. For 2026, an eligible member must be a Singapore Citizen residing in Singapore, aged 55 or above by 31 December of the year (or below 55 with disability status verified by the Ministry of Social and Family Development), with RA or SA savings below the 2026 Basic Retirement Sum of S$110,200, average monthly income of not more than S$4,000, a residence with annual value of not more than S$21,000, and no more than one property ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/government-support/matching-grant-for-retirement)).

There is no application: CPF Board assesses eligibility automatically each year using the previous year's data and notifies eligible members. The grant is generally credited to the RA or SA by end-February of the following year. To count for a year, one-time PayNow top-ups must be made by 31 December and recurring GIRO top-ups by 31 October ([CPF Board, accessed Oct 2026](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/growing-your-savings/government-support/matching-grant-for-retirement)).

The MRSS was enhanced on 1 January 2025: the previous age cap of 70 was removed and the annual matching limit rose to S$2,000 with a S$20,000 lifetime cap, while tax relief for top-ups that attract the grant was removed ([CPF Board, 19 Jan 2025](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/infohub/news/news-releases/closure-of-special-account-for-cpf-members-aged-55-and-above-and-other-cpf-enhancements)). The scheme is one of several government transfers that supplement the contribution-based CPF system for members with low balances, alongside those described in [workfare and support schemes](/en/knowledge/article/sgkb.cpf-social-security.workfare-and-support-schemes).
CPF 补缴计划
新加坡 CPF to S$16,000 a year and a government Matched Retirement Savings Scheme grant of up to S$2,000 a year.
# CPF Top-Up Schemes

CPF top-ups are voluntary payments into a Singapore Central Provident Fund (CPF) member's retirement savings, made by the member, a family member, an employer or anyone else.

CPF 补缴计划
新加坡 CPF Schemes","topics":["sgtopic.social-security","sgtopic.social-security.cpf-top-ups"],"volatility":"fast"}
# CPF Top-Up Schemes

CPF top-ups are voluntary payments into a Singapore Central Provident Fund (CPF) member's retirement savings, made by the member, a family member, an employer or anyone else.

# CPF 补缴计划

CPF
